If you know how to use an iPod or iPhone, you know how to do laundry. That’s the idea behind the new frontloading washer and dryer from Kenmore, and it’s a good line to use on teenagers when the hamper is overflowing.

And to top it off this laundry pair comes in dark purple, a color Kenmore calls blackberry. Get it? Blackberry. A word that wired teens instantly connect to.  As in, “Hey Mom, I can’t clean my room, I’m using the Blackberry.” This is the stuff dreams are made of.

The Kenmore Elite SteamCare Washer with Time Manager and Steam ReFresh dryer will be in Sears stores and online by March. Each machine costs $1,800 to $1,900, depending on color—white, lemongrass (a light green tinged with yellow), or blackberry. The LCD touchscreen uses interface technology, similar to a smart phone, with colorful icons to help you choose your settings. And the time manager allows you to trim the cycle time when washing lightly-soiled clothes. Front-loading washers have a long cycle time—as long as 115 minutes—but this feature shortens the machine’s normal cycle time of 57 minutes to 48 or 39 minutes by condensing phases. The Energy Star model is equipped with a steam option and capacity is 5.1 cubic feet. Model numbers are 44132 white, 44131 lemongrass, and 44130 blackberry.

The dryer also uses an LCD touchscreen and colorful icons to get the job done. Among its features are steam and moisture sensors that prevent overdrying by automatically adjusting the temperature and shutting off the dryer when laundry is done. Capacity is 8.0 cubic feet. Model numbers are 9/84132 white, 9/84131 lemongrass, and 9/84130 blackberry.

What’s next, the iKenmore?
