Obviously before you can use scaffolding it needs to be assembled. Fortunately it is not very difficult to build or assemble standard support scaffolding. If you want to build a suspended scaffolding system it is probably a good idea to purchase a prebuilt kit, rather than doing it yourself because the suspension system can be very difficult to make. A standard supported scaffolding system is quite simple; there are multiple levels of walkways and work areas as well as a support and brace on each level. Begin by checking all of your materials to make sure they are strong enough to support everything. Now the actual building begins.

Learning how to put scaffolding together for the first time can be a scary experience; largely because if you don’t do it right you are sure to feel the consequence later. Begin by assembling the base section; generally using a walkway piece for stability and support. From there assembling the scaffolding requires building the braces on each level, as well as the actual walkway. Depending on what type of materials you are using screws or nails will be the most likely method for securing pieces together. Continue building the scaffolding from the bottom upwards; that way you never have to raise anything heavier than a few pieces of wood. Once the scaffolding is complete check all supports and braces for safety and you are ready to work. Most scaffold manufacturers recommend using a ladder to reach the highest parts of your scaffolding; another option is to build a scaffold stairway if the scaffolding will be in place for quite a while. After that you are ready to work; make sure all railings are in place so that nobody falls off of the scaffolding while working.
