In Random Recast, we find new uses for ordinary things. This week: Map pages.

For many of us, the screens of smartphones and GPS devices have replaced humble map pages. But in the hands of clever crafters, old atlases and road maps get a second life. These coasters, by crafter Jen Merkel, pay homage to a recent trip to Hawaii. Made with a free map, plain white tiles and a little Mod Podge, this set cost less than $7 to make. For the full tutorial, visit Jen’s blog Desert Drivel.
